Professor Trelawney was the Divination teacher at Hogwarts. She was given the Job because she once made a prophecy about Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. However, aside from the rare instances when she made actual prophesies(which she did not remember when she awoke from her trance) she was pretty bad at her job, according to Harry and Ron Weasley (Harry believed her to be a fraud). She also had a habit of constantly predicting Harry's death. In the third year at school for Harry Potter & Co. they got their Divination lessons from her, and she seemed to be shocked by the looks of a the tea leaves Harry was supposed to be reading. She claimed they predicted the Grimm, a doglike death omen that Harry had seen earlier that year (although this later turned out to be Sirius Black). Later in the year she would give another real prediction, saying that Voldemort's most faithful servant would rejoin him, but she didn't remember anything about that right after she was done. She was one of the teachers almost being fired by Professor Umbridge during her reign, but was given shelter at Hogwarts Castle. A record of her Prophecy concerning Harry and Voldemort was the major object year 5 was about. It was eventually destroyed during the final battle at the Ministry of Magic.
